It’s now 4th down and 1 for Ditta

May 10, 2008 · 9 Comments

In an American football’s term, the situation of my youngest daughter Ditta at Dept. of Geophysics ITB is like having a 4th down and 1 !!!

It’s a situation between life and death. Situation between success and fail. Situation between happiness and grievance..

In American football, when a quarterback and his teammate have tried 3 times to advance the elliptic ball from the original position and failed to advance in at least 10 yards, it’s called “4th down and 1“…

It’s the last and only chance to succeed !!

Let me refresh your memory. My youngest daughter Ditta has done her undergraduate seismic processing final project for about 4 months now. She is trying to make a 2D modeling for an oil reservoir somewhere in Indonesia, based on a bunch of seismic data collected earlier. Two heavyweight professors are advising her on how to make things easier, meaningful, and valuable. I am just afraid that Ditta, like anybody else, suffers a so-called “90 percent syndrome” which means that finishing the last 10 percent of a job is much much more difficult than finishing the earlier 90 percent of the project”..

If that is the situation, then things are gonna be much more difficult than that I have imagined before. Hopefully it’s not the case…

So, come on Ditta. Show your strength ! Show your muscle ! Come on Girl : Hang on Tough !!!

Work hard now ! Kick your butts !! Break your legs !!!

And imagine how happy you are when things are over…

A graduation…and that silly ITB you-can-see cut graduation gown

Oh no !!

An oil company has offered you a job, hasn’t it ?

Take it !

Don’t ever think twice !!

Ok, girl  ?

Take care !

[p.s. Kick your butts, break your legs : are the American colloquial terms which means "work hard"...]

As long as I knew from some of my female engineer friends, working in oilco is much easier than studying at school…

Kalau si mas tadi kan membandingkan “to do” (present) dengan “studied” (past tense), jadi kurang klop…

    Hidup Pak Slamet Sudibyo !!!

    Hahaha…
